Who Are We?
Established in 1967 the Victoria Law Foundation is an independent, not-for-profit organisation. We employ a consumer perspective on law and justice, responding to changing community needs that would otherwise be unmet.
The Foundation fills GAPS in existing services through four key areas of activity:
-
Grants - supporting innovative law and justice projects
-
Access to justice - projects promoting equitable access to justice
-
Publications - legal information resources in plain language
-
Support for best practice - activities that foster excellence and innovation
The Foundation's President is the Chief Justice of Victoria and members of its board include the Attorney-General of Victoria, the President of the Law Institute of Victoria and the Chairman of the Victorian Bar Council, or their nominees, as well as further representatives from the legal and community sectors.
Mission Statement
Victoria Law Foundation promotes community access to, and understanding of, the law and the legal system. The Foundation acts as a catalyst to improve the quality and responsiveness of the legal system and the legal profession. This is achieved through a program of grants, plain language information, forums and other special projects.
